Orchards vs. Ornamental Landscapes
Years of data collected from the Emerson orchard in Tustin conclusively shows that the avocado orchard used less water and cost less to install than a typical upper-end ornamental landscape.
The Opportunity
We have an in-depth comparison between the installation and maintenance costs of an ornamental landscape and a functional avocado orchard is the strongest argument we have for installing HOA orchards–basically growing food in locations not previously considered.

Additionally, the crop borne by the orchard raised enough revenue to mitigate HOA fees by 5%–and this orchard was planted at a much lower density than new orchards are today. A modern orchard set at a higher density could produce a more than twice as many avocados!
